Using the WSC Wireless Network

Every network device has an associated MAC address, which is a unique identifier.  For security and management purposes, MAC addresses need to registered for wireless access at WSC. MAC addresses only may be used by the registered owner. Never share your wireless card.

Requirements

  • A laptop running Windows XP Professional* (other operating systems may work, but WSC will be unable to provide support)

  • A wireless adapter that has been properly installed and configured.

  • A working email account provided by the WSC Information Technologies department.

*At this time WSC only supports XP Professional; XP Home version will not work with the WSC intranet.

**WSC strongly encourages the use on one of our recommended wireless cards.

Procedure for Setting-up Your Wireless Card

  1. Install the wireless card.

  2. Obtain the wireless card's MAC address (see setup and registration link below).

  3. Use your logon to a PC in one of the WSC computer labs and register your MAC address (see setup and registration link below).

  4. Wait approximately 5-10 minutes after registering your address.

  5. Your wireless card will then be ready to use.
