Our Mission

In the past, the Student Center has been referred to many, many times as the hearthstone or living room of the campus; and in a very real sense it is the living room of Worcester State College. It is more than a living room. It is also a laboratory where students have an opportunity to learn and practice leadership programming, management and interpersonal skills. There is no other setting on campus where there are so many different hands-on learning opportunities for student development. While other offices and departments may offer similar learning experiences to a limited number of students, no other office can match the scope of the Student Center/Student Activities learning opportunities. We are first and foremost the on campus life skills laboratory.

Our primary role is to ensure the success of the laboratory. Our primary constituency is the students. The strength of the Student Center and the Student Activities Office is the student involvement either through employment or through membership in a student organization. Students are the principal constituency of the Student Center and Student Activities Office. Much of the variety and vitality of any student center stems from the involvement of students. As staff members we must continue to do all that we can to nurture and maintain that involvement.

To achieve our goals of enhancing the quality of life for students at Worcester State College we will:

•   Provide opportunities for students that will compliment their academic program with various out of classroom experiences that will enhance their leadership qualities and interpersonal skills.

•   Encourage and assist in implementation of cultural, social, and educational programming to accommodate the diverse campus community and to provide for a well-rounded college experience.

•  Promote student development through student employment opportunities, leadership development, and club and organization participation.

•   Support and empower student leaders by serving as a resource for leadership training, event planning, and as a liaison for the students to other administration, faculty and staff.

•   Recognize and award the achievements of the campus student leaders.

•   Provide a welcoming and safe environment within the Student Center for the entire campus community.
