Mission Statement for the Worcester State College Police Department

The primary purpose of the Worcester State College Police Department is to provide a high level of safety, security and service for all members of the college community. The Department has the direct responsibility for the preservation of the public peace, for the reduction of the opportunity to commit crime, and for the effective delivery of a wide variety of police services.

In our democratic society, the legislature frames and constructs the law, while the judiciary interprets the law and impose the necessary penalties upon transgressors. It is the police, however, who have the sworn duty to directly apply and execute the law fairly and objectively for the benefit of the entire community.

The mission of this department is to protect life and property, to preserve the peace, to deter crime, to apprehend criminal offenders, to recover lost and stolen property, to perform services as required, and to maintain a sense of community security and confidence in the Department by all community members.

The Department employs and trains police officers, and civilians in order to provide a mix of skills, flexibility of which will best enable the successful performance of the mission. Regardless of an individual Department member's job level, skill, training or experience, each one is responsible to ensure to the best of their ability the successful performance of the mission.
