The history of the Worcester State College Police department is still being researched. Below you can find pictures found of officers from the past and present. What is known is that  the history can trace itself to a security guard working the Sullivan Building in 1970. In 1978 the department was dismissed for budgetary reasons by WSC President Orze. Private security was used temporarily but this experiment proved to be ineffective. By 1979, WSC President Vairo hired back some of the former officers and with the aid of Allied Security, slowly the department was rebuilt. Two College Police officers were assigned Chandler Village Residence area while Allied Security Guards staffed the lower academic buildings.  By 1985 newly hired Chief James R. Granger took on the task of professionalizing the department with success into a  police department.

Worcester State College Police Sergeants

A sergeant is the toughest rank in any police agency. It is a symbol of leadership. A sergeant is not just a line patrol officer or an administrator. A sergeant is in fact both at the same time. As the middle element, it is the sergeant who is the backbone of every department. Administrators come up with the goals and policies for the department, Patrol Officers perform the tasks, but it is the sergeant that MAKES IT HAPPEN!
