Psychology Club Charter

Worcester State College

 Article I. Name

The name that this organization shall be called is THE PSYCHOLOGY CLUB OF WORCESTER STATE COLLEGE

 Article II. Purpose

The purpose of the organization is to enhance the WSC community’s educational opportunities related to the understanding of human behavior.

 Article III. Membership

Membership shall be open to any psychology major or minor, as well as any other WSC student, staff, or faculty member with an interest in the field of psychology.

 Article IV. Officer’s Duties and Requirements 

  1. The President.
    1. Chair all meetings
    2. Oversee the setting of agenda during the club’s executive board meetings
    3. Have the authority to call emergency meetings of the executive board
    4. Delegate tasks to other members, and ensure that they are carried out
    5. Work with other officers and members to create a cohesive organization
    6. Be a catalyst for offering agendas, ideas, and means to solving members’ concerns
       
  1. The Vice President
    1. Perform the duties of the President in the event of his/her absence
    2. Attend all Psychology Club executive board meetings
    3. Promote communication between the president and members of the club
       
  1. The Treasurer
    1. Keep track of all income and expenditures related to the club
    2. See that all bills are paid and/or deposits made in a timely manner
    3. Attend all Psychology Club executive board meetings
    4. Provide up-to-date financial reports at the club’s meetings
       
  1. The Secretary
    1. Attend all Psychology Club executive meetings
    2. Keep records of attendance at all meetings
    3. Keep membership records
    4. Write and distribute minutes of all Psychology Club meetings
    5. Maintain any correspondence outside of the club

Article V. Elections

Nominations for officers’ positions may be made by any Psychology Club member, including self-nominations.  All nominations must be seconded by another member. Any current or incoming members are eligible for elections. The elections will be held during the middle-to-end of the spring semester of each year. They will be run by written ballot with majority rule being the determining factor.

 Article VI. Meetings

Meetings of the Psychology Club will be held on a weekly basis. The members of the executive board will meet at a separate time on a weekly basis. The quorum for a meeting shall consist of one-quarter of all members.

 Article VII. Recall of Officers and Executive Board Members

Any office may be recalled with just cause, such as incompetence or dereliction of duty.  Recall of officers will be considered at a general membership meeting, not an executive board meeting. If present, the officer considered for recall may have the opportunity to speak on his/her behalf before the vote is taken. The SGA Constitution Article XIII shall be adhered to.

 Article VIII. Finance

Funding will be provided by the SGA and the Student Activity Fund, as well as through any fundraising efforts by the organization.

 Article IX. Advisor

Any full-time faculty, administrator, or staff member with expertise in the field of psychology may serve as advisors. If more than one advisor exists, the membership shall vote on one primary advisor; only full-time faculty members within the Psychology Department may serve as the primary advisor. The removal of the Advisor for reasons other than his/her own resignation or retirement shall come at the recommendation of the executive board and a majority vote of the membership. The vote to remove an Advisor can occur only if all officers are present. The voting in of an Advisor will also require majority vote of all members present. Advisors will be voted on each Spring for the following academic year.

 Article X. Amendments

Amendments may be added to this Charter as the need for new rules arises. Amendments must be proposed and seconded at a general meeting. Amendments then must be approved by a two-thirds majority of those voting members present. Notification must be accepted by the Senate Parliamentarian to ensure compliance with the Student Government Association.

 Article XI. Ratification

This Charter will take effect upon ratification by the Psychology Club and upon approval by the Student Senate.
