NEW TRUSTEES JOIN WSC BOARD OF TRUSTEES

(Worcester, MA – January 16, 2007) Lisa Giarrusso, D.M.D., a resident of Shrewsbury, and Richard A. Sheppard, a resident of Sterling, were appointed in December 2006 by Governor Mitt Romney to serve a 4-year term on the Board of Trustees of Worcester State College.

“Worcester State College is fortunate to have individuals on our Board who are committed and dedicated to the institution and its mission, and I welcome Dr. Giarrusso and Mr. Sheppard to a professional and congenial board,” said WSC President Janelle C. Ashley.

Giarusso, who replaces Phyllis Harrington whose term expired, is president of Central Mass Orthodontics Assn. with offices in Worcester and Spencer, an instructor in orthodontics at UMass Medical School, and a clinical instructor in orthodontics at Tufts University.  She received her Doctor of Dentistry degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She is a member of several professional organizations, and has received an award from her alma mater in 1990 for superior clinical excellence in pediatric dentistry.

Sheppard, who replaces Jennie Caissie whose term expired, is a retired technology education teacher of Chocksett Middle School. He has more than 20 years experience in environmental safety engineering and is a graduate of Clark University and Wentworth Institute of Technology. He serves as chair of the Sterling Board of Selectmen, as chair of Sterling Municipal Light department, and director of the Leominster Credit Union. He also serves as a director of the Mary’s Little Lamb Association, a historical society dedicated to preserving the house of May Sawyer, and serves on the Sterling Chocksett Club, a community club which awards scholarships to high school graduates.
