FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Folksinger and Activist Anne Feeney
In Concert
(Worcester, MA – March 27, 2007) Not many women have
chosen to walk the path of Woody Guthrie, but Pittsburgh-based activist and
folksinger Anne Feeney has made a career of it for the past 35 years. She
will perform live at Worcester State College, at 1 p.m., Thursday, April 5,
2007, in the Student Center Auditorium. The event is free and open to the
public.
Feeney’s music draws on Irish, bluegrass, traditional,
labor, pop, folk and contemporary material. She’s as likely to sing a
traditional song or an obscure gem by one of her many friends as she is one
of her own award-winning songs. Feeney’s anthem, “Have You Been to Jail for
Justice?” is featured on Peter, Paul and Mary’s CD, “In These Times,” and
also on their five-CD box set.
While Feeney may prefer the excitement of performances
at rallies and demonstrations, she knows that many of her fans like to
listen to the songs and stories that make up her sometimes caustic,
sometimes hilarious, always inspiring show. To hear her music, go to her
website at www.annefeeney.com.
She also will be performing at a benefit concert in
Worcester at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 5. For more information about this
event, call 617-852-7237. The afternoon event is sponsored by the Worcester
State College Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement, Office of
Diversity, and Departments of Sociology and Languages and Literature.
