FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WORCESTER STATE THEATRE UP CLOSE PRESENTS
DYLAN THOMAS’ UNDER MILK WOOD
(Worcester, MA – November 2, 2007) Llareggub, the town
in Dylan Thomas’ masterful play, Under Milk Wood, is inhabited
by drunkards, nymphomaniacs, bigamists, young women dying to sin, the dead
still married to the living, and more eccentric characters than any ten
towns put together. They will all be on display when Worcester State
Theatre Up Close produces Under Milk Wood this month.
Funny, touching, and above all couched in undeniably
beautiful language, Under Milk Wood depicts the citizens of Llareggub in
their endless search for love and constant confrontation with lust. Dylan
Thomas, one of the 20th century’s most revered lyrical poets has
created more than just a collection of eccentric characters. He gives us
humanity in a microcosm, giving us an affectionate portrait of humankind in
all its messy, behind-closed-doors splendor.
The Worcester State Theatre Up Close production
includes fourteen student actors, playing the over 60 roles in Under
Milk Wood. It is directed by Adam Zahler (Assistant Professor of
Theatre) with scenic design by John Howell Hood (Assistant Professor of
Theatre), costume design by Susan Johnson-Hood (Adjunct Professor of
Theatre), and lighting design by Christopher Fournier.
Worcester State Theatre Up Close is the production
wing of the Theatre program at Worcester State College. Part of the
Department of Visual and Performing Arts, Worcester State Theatre Up Close
performs in an intimate setting created by altering the stage of Sullivan
Auditorium to include both performance and audience.
