Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STUDENTS TAKE ACTION TO HELP THE HOMELESS
(WORCESTER – February 7, 2005) The rise in homelessness in Worcester
continues to concern students at Worcester State College. Taking action,
the Student Government Association (SGA) will host its 14th
annual Auction to Benefit the Homeless at 5 p.m., Thursday March 3, 2005 in
the Blue Lounge located in the Student Center at Worcester State College.
All
proceeds from the event will be donated to the Mustard Seed Foundation, a
local foundation which provides emergency services and food to Worcester’s
local homeless population, and to Abby’s House, another local shelter for
homeless women and children.
The
SGA believes that their annual auction is one way that they can raise
awareness about the continuing problem of homelessness in Worcester and give
back to the community. In past years, the SGA auction has raised close to
$70,000, with a goal of raising at least $12,000 this year. SGA is pleased
with the growing number of both Worcester State students and local community
members who attend the auction to help give to two organizations that do so
much good for Worcester’s community throughout the years.
SGA
is a student run government organization at Worcester State College that
serves as a delegate for the entire population of undergraduate students.
SGA serves as the primary advocate of students’ rights and is involved with
forming the College policy.
