Attend Workshop on Poverty
Over 75 educators and agency representatives from
around the region attended the “Framework for Understanding Poverty,”
workshop sponsored by the Worcester State Education Department,
Wednesday April 2.
The workshop featured nationally recognized
educator Rita F. Pierson, Ed.D. She outlined some of the “hidden rules”
around class that educators face in the classroom every day. She urged
attendees to provide their students with structure but also love. “Your
kids will work so much harder for a teacher they like and respect.”
Participants included representatives from the
Acton Housing Authority, Douglas Public Schools, Dudley-Charlton
Regional School District, Framingham Housing Authority, Leicester Public
Schools, Petersham Center School, Quaboag Regional High School, Stetson
School, Tantasqua Regional School District, Webster Public Schools,
Worcester Community Action Council, Worcester Head Start, Worcester
Public Schools and Worcester State College.
