ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT APPOINTED
(Worcester, MA – January 14, 2004) Worcester State College has announced the
appointment of Dorothy A. Escribano, Ph.D., to a top administrative position
as associate vice president for Academic Affairs for Academic Services and
Faculty Development.
Escribano, an associate professor of Spanish, has been a member of the
Worcester State College faculty since 1996. Prior to that, she was a
visiting assistant professor at
Clark
University
and a lecturer of Hispanic Studies at the
University
of Rhode Island in Kingston. She previously taught in public schools, grades
seven through twelve, and holds teacher certification in New York and Texas.
She has held the position of interim associate vice president for Academic
Affairs since August 2002.
Escribano will be responsible for the supervision of a variety of
departments and academic-support centers in the Academic Affairs division,
including the Academic Success Center, the Registrar, the Library, Honors
Program, Center for Teaching and Learning and the Center for the Study of
Human Rights. She will assist the vice president and department chairs in
curricular planning and academic program reviews, faculty orientation and
development. While serving in an interim capacity, she was instrumental in
the reorganization of the first-year experience at the college and worked
with a number of departments to develop freshman learning communities.
Vice President for Academic Affairs David A. Caruso said, “Dr. Escribano has
filled the role of interim associate vice president admirably. She brings a
wealth of knowledge and experience as well as excellent leadership skills to
the position. We are pleased that she will now be serving in this capacity
on a permanent basis, and those of us who have worked with her look forward
to continuing to do so.”
Dr. Escribano holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies from Brown University, an
M.A. in Spanish Literature from the
University
of Rhode Island, an M.A. in Liberal Studies with a concentration in
Education from SUNY, and a B.A. in Spanish from Marist College.
