REPORT REVEALS
IMPACT OF TRANSITIONAL HOUSING
AND SERVICE PROGRAMS
ON NEIGHBORHOODS
(Worcester, MA – September 21, 2006)
Worcester State College Sociology Professor Corey Dolgon, Ph.D. and students
from his community research class released surprising new findings from
their report, “Mending Fences: Supportive Housing and Neighborhood Quality
of Life—The Impact of Group Homes and Service Agencies on Worcester
Communities,” at noon, Monday, September 25, in the new Center for Service
Learning and Civic Engagement, Room 220, Sullivan Academic Building.
The study
will reveal new data and analysis of social service impact on neighborhoods,
including such factors as property valuation, crime, and neighborhood
attitudes. The study was conducted in the neighborhood area that includes
Jeremiah’s Inn, Dismas House and the Salvation Army.
Some of
the students, who participated in the research, as well as Professor Dolgon,
will be at the presentation in the new Center for Service Learning and Civic
Engagement at Worcester State College. The Center was recently established
to focus on community service and service learning courses at Worcester
State College and to develop partnerships with community agencies.
For more
information, or for a copy of the report, please contact Professor Corey
Dolgon at 508-929-8534 or Carrie Rice at 508-929-8635.
