Film Producer and Author To Give Talk On Pornography In Relation To Media and Culture

(Worcester, MA – April 9, 2007) Dr. Chyng Sun, professor of Media Studies at New York University will give a free public lecture at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, April 12, 2007 in the Student Center North/South Auditorium.

The talk, sponsored by the Worcester State College Women’s Studies Program and Women’s Forum Club, is titled “Fantasies Matter: Pornography, Sexuality and Relationships.” Between 1992 and 2004, revenue generated by pornography skyrocketed from $490 million to around $12 billion.

Sun will explore the surge in the popularity of pornography since the 1990s as it is linked to the introduction of the VCR, pornographic films' low production costs and the proliferation of the Internet. She will present video clips of interviews with actresses and filmmakers involved in the pornography industry. Taking a cultural studies approach to media, Sun will examine the production, content and consumption of pornography.

Sun, an award-winning children’s book writer, is the co-producer of the documentaries, The Mickey Mouse Monopoly: Disney, Childhood and Corporate Power and Beyond Good and Evil: Children, Media and Violent Times.
