Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dominicans in the U.S.
and the 2000 Census Data
(Worcester-October 7, 2004)
Distinguished lecturer, Ramona Hernández, Ph.D., director of Dominican
Studies Institute and associate professor of sociology at City University of
New York (CUNY), will speak on “Dominicans in the
United States and the 2000 Census Data”
at 11:30 a.m., Friday, October 15, 2004 at the Worcester State College
Student Center Auditorium.
Hernández was appointed by New York City
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg to the 12-member New York City Panel of
Education. Her research and publication interests include the mobility of
workers from Latin America and the
Caribbean,
the restructuring of the world economy and its effects on working and poor
people. Her numerous publications include The Mobility of Workers Under
Advanced Capitalism, Dominican Migration to the United States and
The Dominican Americans.
This event, which celebrates Latin
Heritage Month, is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the
Worcester State College Department of Languages and Literature, Diversity
Office, Third World Alliance and Latino Education Institute, home of the
Worcester Working Coalition for Latino Students.
