JACK KENT COOKE FOUNDATION OPENS

NATIONAL GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION

(WORCESTER, Mass. – December 1, 2006) The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is now accepting nominations for its Graduate Scholarship Program, one of the largest and most competitive scholarship programs in the country.  College seniors, and alumni who graduated since May 2002, may compete for the scholarships, which can total as much as $300,000 (up to $50,000 per year for up to six years).

The scholarship focuses primarily on individuals with financial need, who have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.50 or better on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent). Worcester State College candidates for the scholarship should forward their application to Maureen C. Stefanini, professor of Business at mstefanini@worcester.edu or bring to Sullivan Building, Room 204. Deadline for submission to Professor Stefanini is February 15, 2007.

The Foundation will award the graduate scholarships in early summer 2007 for use during the 2007-2008 academic year, and will renew each award in subsequent years based on performance. A panel of national experts will assist the Foundation in selecting scholars based on the following criteria: academic ability and achievement, unmet financial need, will to succeed, leadership and public service, critical thinking and an appreciation for arts and humanities.

For an application and further information, go to www.jackkentcookefoundation.org (click on Scholarships) or call 1-800-498-6478.

The Foundation is a private, independent foundation established in 2000 by the estate of Jack Kent Cooke to help young people of exceptional promise reach their full potential through education.
