Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Third
Annual Central Mass Writing Project Summer Institute
(Worcester, MA – January 28, 2004) The
Central Massachusetts Writing Project (CMWP) will hold its third annual
Summer Invitational Institute July 6 to July 30, 2004 for teachers in
central Massachusetts. CMWP is an affiliate of the highly acclaimed National
Writing Project which was recognized by Congress as one of the most
successful education programs in improving student learning and
performance.
“As teachers from our institute return to
their classrooms with improved writing skills, the reading, writing and
thinking abilities of their students are reflected in improved test scores,”
said Robert Walker, Ph.D., program facilitator and Worcester State College
(WSC) professor of English. “We have already graduated two groups of teacher
consultants who find themselves in great demand to provide presentations in
their school districts.” Walker is
joined by program facilitators Gail Gilman of Brimfield Elementary School
and Jim McDermott of the Worcester Public Schools.
According to Walker, applications to the 2004
Summer Invitational Institute are now being accepted. Teachers with a
demonstrated interest in writing and in the teaching of writing who will
serve as leaders and mentors in the practice and teaching of writing are
encouraged to apply. Applications must be submitted by March
1, 2004.
There will be an information meeting for the
2004 Summer Invitational Institute at 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Thursday,
February 12, 2004 in the Ghosh Science and Technology Center, room 318 on
