(Worcester, MA – April
8, 2003) As part of a nationwide effort to address the serious problem of
binge drinking on and off college campuses, Worcester State College will
hold an Alcohol Screening Day. Here, students, faculty, and staff will
participate in a mock roadside sobriety test using the very popular “Beer
Goggles,” as well as receive educational information, or speak one-on-one
with a member of the counseling staff.
The student
organization, BACCHUS, will provide Mocktails (non-alcoholic drinks) while
the Counseling Department will also offer a brief written screening that
participants can complete and have evaluated by a member of the staff.
National Alcohol
Screening Day is designed to raise public awareness about the consequences
of at-risk drinking and alcohol’s effect on general health. The program
addresses a range of drinking behaviors from risky drinking to alcohol
dependence (http://www.mentalhealthscreening.org/alcohol.htm).
