Young Professionals - Not Your
Typical Summer Camp
Worcester State College (WSC) has prepared professionals in the Worcester
Community for over 130 years. This summer, the College is preparing 42
middle-school students in the Young Professionals program to engage their
budding interests in science and writing.
The Young Professionals Program, hosted by the
Division of Graduate and Continuing Education, is a 2–week summer day camp
held on the WSC campus. The program offers two weeks of fun, inspiration,
and imagination that will strengthen core academic, personal, and creative
skills. It offers great exposure to college and "professions.”
The Young Professionals Program is taught by
experienced and engaging certified teachers, who are assisted and guided by
Worcester State College faculty.
Thanks to the generosity of donors such as Webster Five
Foundation and Millbury Credit Union, 14 of the students are attending the
program on scholarship. These students come from public and private
Worcester schools and many live in neighboring areas.
Young authors spend their mornings meeting real
authors and learning how to write their own story. The afternoons are spent
creating and illustrating their own book.
Young scientists spend their mornings working
in real labs and outdoors uncovering, exploring and examining the unusual.
The afternoons are spent having fun with “experimental art.”
The students also get together for a power
lunch where they learn and practice leadership skills through games and
activities.
At 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20th
there will be a Finale and Family Supper with an exhibition and presentation
by the new Young Professionals. |
