Worcester Reads The Peabody Sisters

This fall semester's Worcester Reads program is focusing on Megan Marshall’s book, The Peabody Sisters, nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. The book has already been awarded both state and national awards for best history book this year.  Ms. Marshall’s work is an excellent example for the teaching and writing of history, a course that will be offered in WSC's WinterSession.  The book is available at the College Bookstore.

Please note these other events surrounding Worcester Reads which are scheduled at 5 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge, 3rd Floor, Sullivan Building. Light refreshments will be available. All events are free and open to the public.

Monday, October 30, 2006: Discussion "Public Education: Connecting pathways to Effective Instruction for Superintendents, Principals and Teachers," by Drs.John Durkin and William Hosmer, former superintendents of Worcester and Hopkinton Public Schools, respectively, and directors of WSC's Center for Effective Instruction.

Monday, November 6, 2006: "Activism & Restraint: Women in the Modern Era," a theme resonating in The Peabody Sisters, by Professor Kristin Waters, Chair of the Philosophy Department and an expert in women’s issues.

Tuesday, November 14, 2006: Megan Marshall, author of The Peabody Sisters will talk about her research for this book, followed by a discussion about the remarkable Peabody Sisters.
