The Center for Global Studies presents their
THIRD ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM
Democracy: South and North
Monday April 7, 2008
Student Center - North/South Auditorium
For some time now the (colonial) construct
"North and South" has been undergoing deep transformations. The idea of a
North standing for democracy, intellectual leadership, fair play and
respect for resources and the environment as opposed to a South mired in
pre-democratic violence, lack of sophistication, and irrational forces
confronting "progress" is being challenged, by undemocratic processes in the
north, and creative political and social strides for popular democracy in
the South. This year’s panel addresses various movements for democracy in
the south and
global threats to democracy.
