What is MED/EE? I don't have insurance.
Anyone hired after April 1, 1986, is subject to
Medicare Tax withholdings. This
is a federal tax and is 1.45% of your gross pay. It appears on your pay advice
if you are paid through HRCMS as "MED/EE". It has nothing to do with medical or
health insurance.
What is OBRA?
State employees do not contribute to Social Security
(FICA); however, the government requires that the Commonwealth provide an
alternate retirement plan through
the Omnibus Reconciliation Act (OBRA). All employees who are not members of the
State Employee Retirement Systems (or Optional Retirement Program) must enroll
in OBRA.
How can I change my tax withholdings?
You can change the amount of allowances, your
status, and/or the additional withholding amount simply by completing a new Form
W-4 for federal tax or a new Form M-4 for state tax. Both forms are available in
the Payroll Office.
The Form W-4 will be used for both federal and state
tax withholdings unless you fill out a Form M-4 or request that only the
federal be changed.
How can I change my other deductions?
Changes to any other deductions such as your
insurance, savings bonds, TSA's , etc. must be in writing with a live signature.
Forms are available in the Payroll Office and may be requested by phone,
e-mail, or in person.
Some changes may only be made at certain times of
the year (e.g. you may change your health insurance carrier only during Annual
Enrollment in April/May). Others may be made at any time. Please click on the
Benefits and Deductions link to the left for more information about a specific
deduction.
I lost my W-2. How do I get another one?
You can request a duplicate copy of your W-2 Form
from the Payroll Office. We will need to know your Social Security number, the
tax year(s) you need, and which payroll you are paid from (i.e. HRCMS or local).
