UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM

The Upward Bound program is a state funded program that is held at Worcester State College.  Since its inception in 1977, this pre-collegiate program serves and continues to serve the Worcester Public High School students.  The program's participants are representative of the low income, first generation and ALANA (African-American, Latin American, Asian American, and Native-American) population within the Worcester community.

Upward Bound's goal is to encourage eligible students to persist in school through graduation and to pursue a post-secondary education after the completion of high school.

Upward Bound has two major components:                                                   

Saturday Workshops:

  • Approximately 22 Saturdays during the Academic School Year
    Designed to help students:

    • Improve Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills

    • Develop Leadership Skills

    • MCAS Preparation

    • Work on Critical Areas in English and Math

    • Enhance Career and Cultural Development

    • Increase Student's Sophistication in Current and World Events

Summer Program:

  • Five week residential program

  • Offers dormitory and independent living at Worcester State College

  • Academic enrichment courses

  • Informational tours and fairs at colleges and universities

  • Recreational Activities

Other services include

  • College mentor

  • Tutoring

  • Personal and Career Counseling
