The Library at Worcester State College encourages donations of materials
that would be worthwhile additions to the general collection. We do not,
however, desire gift material in the following areas:
- Mysteries, detective stories, westerns, ephemeral fiction, Reader’s
Digest Condensed Books.
- Specialized theological or philosophical doctrines, sermons, etc.
which relate to particular sects or individuals.
- Outdated monographs, textbooks, or teacher study guides for high
school and/or college.
- Extremely worn, damaged, color highlighted, mutilated, or mildewed
items.
- Periodicals should be donated through the Periodicals Librarian.
-
All formats of material, including non-print items will be acceptable as
gift material. We cannot accept outdated formats such as (but not limited to) LP
records and 16mm films.
- All material that is donated to the Library becomes the property of the
College Library and cannot be returned.
- Any person wishing to donate material should contact the Acquisitions
Librarian at (508) 929-8647 prior to making such donations.
- The Library Acquisitions staff reserves the right to determine the status
of donated materials: whether it will be added to, or rejected for the
collection. We also reserve the right to determine the priority by which this
material is added to the collection.
- According to IRS regulations, the Library cannot assign a monetary
valuation to material donated. The Acquisitions office will send notification of
receipt to donors.
- For material that is deemed unacceptable for addition to the
collection, we will not acknowledge receipt.
- For material that is added to the collection we will send a letter of
acknowledgement with the titles, dates of publications, and indication of
the type of material (non-print, hardcover, or paperback).
- For items that are considered by the donor to be exceptionally
outstanding, the Acquisitions staff will provide assistance in locating book
catalogs, price lists, or names of individuals who are experts in the area
of rare materials. But it will be up to the donor to establish valuation of
the material if it is extremely valuable.
- All material will be donated through the Acquisitions office (L-204) and
it will be the responsibility of that department to handle receipt of material.
Items accepted for the collection will then be forwarded for cataloging and
processing.
