Multimedia Quick Guide: LRC-121 

This quick guide is designed to be used as an easy how-to reference for this multimedia room at Worcester State College.  The guide includes instructions for reserving and accessing a multimedia room and quick how-to instructions for using the equipment available in LRC-121.

Reserving a Multimedia Room

  • All room reservations are made through Facilities (x8078).

  • Access to multimedia rooms is granted through Campus Police (x8886).

  • Podium keys are assigned through the Instructional Media Center (x8501).

Available Output Devices and Device Locations

  • Computer: CPU is located in the media cabinet behind the podium.  The monitor, keyboard, and mouse are located in the podium; see configuration below.

  • DVD Player: located in the media cabinet; see configuration below.

  • Laptop: connection box to link a laptop to the multimedia system is located in the media cabinet; see configuration below.  Contact the Instructional Media Center in advance to arrange the availability of a connection cable.

  • VCR: located in the media cabinet; see configuration below.

[The podium key will open any podium compartment and the media cabinet.  The remote, keyboard, and mouse are in the top podium compartment.]

 

Room Controls 

A.  Lights
     1.  There are three switches to adjust the room lighting located on the wall
         between the podium and media cabinet.
          a.  Left switch: controls the stage lights.
          b.  Center switch: dimmer switch; controls low audience lights.
          c.  Right switch: controls audience lights.
     2.  Additional light switches are located at both entrances.

B.  Screen
     1.  The screen control is located on the wall opposite the podium.  It is a rocker
         switch with three positions.
          a.  Up: raise the screen.
          b.  Center: stop.
          c.  Down: lower the screen.

Device Specific Instructions

A. General Directions
     1.  For all devices, open the black media cabinet behind the podium with the
         podium key.
     2.  Push the power switch to the ON position.  Note:  The podium monitor will
          not work until this is done.
     3.  Lower the screen.
     4.  Open the top compartment of the podium and pull out the keyboard tray.
     5.  Press the power button on the Projector Remote to turn on the projector.  It
         will take 30 seconds to warm up before displaying the selected device.
     6.  All directions assume you are facing the item or device discussed.  

B.  Computer
     1.  Press the mode button on the projector remote until it displays “Computer 1”
         on the screen.
     2.  Turn on the CPU in the media cabinet.
     3.  When the computer has booted, enter your WSC network logon to access
         the computer. 

C.  DVD Player
     1.  Press the mode button on the projector remote until it displays “Video 1” on
         the screen.
     2.  Place the DVD in the player.
     3.  The DVD player can be operated using either the remote control or the
         manual controls.  The remote control is stored in the media cabinet beside
         the VCR.

D.  Laptop
     1.  Press the mode button on the projector remote until it displays “Computer 2”
         on the screen.
     2.  Connect the laptop connection cable to the back of the laptop.  The other
         end connects to the Computer Input port on the connection box in the media
         cabinet (see the podium configuration above). 

E.  VCR
     1.  Press the mode button on the projector remote until it displays “Video 2” on
         the screen.
     2.  Insert the video in the VCR.
     3.  The VCR can be operated using either the remote control or the manual
         controls.  The remote control is stored in the media cabinet beside the VCR. 

When leaving the room, please be sure to shut down the multimedia devices and turn off the lights.
