Network
Login and Authentication
Introduction
For most users, the login process associated with
LancerMail is the first time that Microsoft authentication is required.
Increasingly, this form of authentication will be necessary in order to
maintain network and resource security.
When accessing a secure campus resource, a Microsoft
authentication pop-up may appear. The appearance of this may vary,
depending upon the user's specific operating system.
The pop-up authentication dialog associated with
Windows 98 may look like this:
Windows XP users will see something like the
following:
Only pay attention to the User Name and
Password fields. If there is a separate domain field (this doesn't
always appear), you can ignore it.
All networks are divided into neighborhoods, which are
called domains. Just as everyone lives in a specific neighborhood, each
network user is assigned a domain. At WSC, faculty and staff live in
one domain, while students live in another.
The names of the domains are:
students: acl\ (must use the slash)
faculty and staff: wsc_domain\ (must use the slash)
When the Microdoft authentication pop-up appears,
enter your domain and username in the User Name field. Next enter your
password. If a separate domain field appears, you can leave it empty.
The syntax of the domain\username entries are as
follows and are replicated in the images above:
students: acl\demouser
faculty and staff: wsc_domain\demouser
