The Center for the Study of Human Rights was founded in
1982 and revived in 1999. The Center has organized a continuing series of
human rights lectures and symposia for the academic and broader communities
featuring a number of nationally and internationally respected scholars,
activists, and leaders. It also works to support curriculum development
around human rights issues, fostering integration of human rights issues
across a range of disciplines and courses. For the spring 2001 semester,
the Center and the WSC Honors Program hosted Dennis Brutus as
Poet-in-Residence. The Center's programming has received significant
attention, such as favorable mention on the floor of the U.S. House of
Representatives and frequent articles in the regional Worcester newspaper.
Founded in 1874, Worcester State College is a
comprehensive, four-year public college with an emphasis on teacher
education, business, allied health programs, all built upon a strong liberal
arts foundation. The College offers bachelor's and master's degrees, as
well as continuing education programs, and maintains a caring environment
the encourages students to discover enduring personal, intellectual, and
social values.
