Assistant Professor/Green
Chemistry
Tenure Track, Assistant Professor, Chemist with
an interest in green chemistry beginning September 1, 2008. Ph.D.,
demonstrated research experience and a strong commitment to teaching
excellence are required. Willingness to sponsor undergraduate research
is expected. Teaching responsibilities include general chemistry,
toxicology and an upper level green chemistry course. The appointee
will develop an upper level course in green chemistry for chemistry
majors. S/he will also develop a general education science course for
non-science majors in some area relevant to environmental concerns or
green chemistry. In addition, s/he will be expected to teach core
courses in the chemistry program and to incorporate in these the
principles of green chemistry. Applicants should include a statement
explaining what is meant by “green chemistry” and how it can be
incorporated into the chemistry curriculum.
The successful applicant will be encouraged to
offer upper level elective chemistry courses such as Toxicology for
majors in chemistry and biotechnology. Typical assignment is two lecture
sections and two or three laboratory sections each semester. Use of
active learning techniques in lecture and lab is encouraged.
