Associate Professor Bruce Cohen

My field study is the Gilded Age (1865-1900) and the Age of Reform (1877-1920). Originally trained as an American Social and Intellectual historian at Rutgers University, my original dissertation topic was "The Rise and Decline of Muckraking, 1902-1912." Before coming to Worcester State College in the fall of 1965, I had already taught at Rutgers, St. Peter's College, and Michigan Technological University.

At Worcester State my interests broadened to include local industrial and labor history. I have recently submitted an article for publication entitled "Lord of Capital and Knights of Labor: Worcester's Labor History During the Gilded Age."

I am professionally involved in several historical organizations including the New England Historical Association, where I am currently serving on the Executive Committee. I teach undergraduate courses in American Economic and Labor History and graduate courses in the Gilded Age, the Age of Reform and the Industrial Revolution.

I was chairman of the department from 1998 to 2007.
