Graduate Programs

DISCLAIMER: TEACHER LICENSING REGULATIONS ARE CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION. AS A RESULT, THE PROGRAMS DESCRIBED BELOW MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

The following pages explain the graduate programs at Worcester State College, including those that lead to becoming a licensed teacher in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Entry into the teaching profession is regulated by law that outlines the requirements and conditions for licensure. In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Law stipulates a three-stage process of teacher licensure: Temporary License, Initial License and Professional License.

In October of 2001, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts adopted new standards for licensure of teachers. Worcester State College’s Education Department has revised its graduate degree programs in education to meet the new state standards.

Clinical Experience
The Clinical Experience is no longer required as part of the classroom teacher Professional Licensure programs. It remains an integral part of the Post Baccalaureate programs leading to Initial Licensure and of the specialized master’s degree programs.
