Welcome to the

Education Department

~Mission Statement~

The Education Department at Worcester State College  is committed to creating a teaching/learning-based environment that will provide caring, competent, and creative teachers for the Commonwealth and beyond.

We have designed early childhood, elementary, middle, and secondary education programs to provide our students with theoretical and practical knowledge of children’s and adolescents’ developmental needs, abilities, and interests. Thus, students are firmly grounded in subject matter knowledge, National State Standards, as well as pedagogical and technical skills that will prepare them to be the consummate professional.

We believe that college students who are schooled in reflective practices and contemporary, research-based classroom techniques, strategies, and resources become skilled educators. Therefore, it is imperative that students be adept at building connections among the discreet components of their content discipline and instructional applications.

We further recognize that lifelong learning is a requirement of being an effective teacher/scholar; that professional development is integral to teacher growth and impact on the teaching/learning process. We, therefore, encourage teaching and research activities that support the individual’s cognizance that s/he is serving in a profession that is vital to our nation’s future.
