Module 1: Workplace Learning Principles

Overview

Selecting the appropriate training methods promotes learners’ understanding of the program content, accomplishment of the objectives, and the transfer of knowledge from the classroom to the job. Equally important is evaluating the effectiveness of training to determine if the learning objectives have been met.

In this module, participants will

  • Examine how to incorporate a variety of design and instructional techniques to accommodate different learning styles and actively engage participants to achieve the desired knowledge, skills, and behaviors.

  • Practice using a design document format that incorporates steps for facilitating learning.

  • Review different ways of evaluating the results of the training. .

  2. A five-step instructional design process that supports the achievement of desired learning outcomes.

  3. Five reasons for conducting a needs analysis.

  4. What information to gather from a needs analysis, alternative collection techniques, and the pros and cons of each.

  5. How to write active, performance-based learning objectives based on the results of the needs analysis.

  6. The essential components of a comprehensive design document.
