Financing the Emerging Enterprise (16 hours)

Participants will learn how to use basic financial statements to evaluate the financial health and operation of a business. They will investigate financing options to understand the interaction between marketing, management, and operating decisions and the financial needs of the enterprise. They will become aware of the long-term effects of different financing decisions on the operations of a firm and the value to the entrepreneur. They will learn to effectively communicate opportunities of value in order to finance a new venture.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • understand the use of basic financial documents in managing a business.

  • investigate the array of investment options available to the entrepreneur.

  • identify real investment opportunities for the participant’s business venture.

  • learn to make decisions as to which investment alternatives to pursue and which to pass up.

  • master tools for screening investment opportunities in the absence of ‘hard’ financial data.

  • make intelligent investment decisions regarding highly risky entrepreneurial ventures

  • develop a strategic perspective for joint decisions that must be made in terms of planning and financing.
