Choosing/Changing my Major

Career Services offers individual career counseling and assessment to assist you in choosing/changing your major.  We can help you explore your interests, skills,  values, and preferred work environments in order to develop appropriate career alternatives.  You can also learn about the connection between majors and careers.

The assessments most commonly used include the "Self-Directed Search" and the "Strong Interest Inventory."   We also offer access to SIGI Plus, a comprehensive, interactive, computer-assisted career guidance program designed to help you in making career choices.  SIGI Plus also helps you start moving toward your career objectives by helping you plan short-range goals.  You will need a special password to access the assessment.  Please contact our office for the password.

You will want to explore beyond choosing a major as well.  What about a double major?  How can choosing a minor enhance your qualifications?  What electives might enhance your background?  What experiences outside the classroom would be beneficial?

The Career Resource Center has resources such as the "Great Jobs..." series including "Great Jobs for English Majors" and "Great Jobs for Foreign Language Majors."

Please call our office or come by to set up an appointment.  We recommend that you begin working with your Career Counselor no later than second semester of your freshman year!
