NORTH ADAMS, MA - The MCLA softball team is on quite
a roll as they have compiled a 5-1 record in their past six games. What makes
that even more important is three of those games were in the MASCAC improving
their record to 4-6 in conference play and 8-20 overall. In this afternoon's
sweep over Worcester State, pitcher Jen McMurray earned both wins for the
Trailblazers only giving up ten hits in 14 innings of work also improved her
record to 5-5 on the season. The Lancers fall to 8-21 overall and 3-9 in the
MASCAC right behind MCLA.
GAME 1:
In the opener, Katie Ouellette's two RBI triple in the second inning would prove
to be enough for the Trailblazers to take game one earning a 4-0 shutout.
McMurray only allowed two hits, both doubles, to Katherine Kelly, but she would
be left on base both times and that would be all the offense the Lancers could
generate in the first game.
GAME 2:
In the second game of the conference double-header, McMurray took the mound
again and put in a solid showing for her team. This time she would give up a few
more hits but the Trailblazers backed her up with solid defense and 14 hits to
capture the win in the home end of the seventh.
MCLA center fielder, Taylor Kenyon, sparked the offense for the Trailblazers and
she went three for three and had four runs batted in.
Steph Hendricks also came up big at the plate for MCLA going three for four and
knocking in three, her final being the RBI that allow Kenyon to cross for the
win.
MCLA jumped on the board first amassing a 5-1 lead heading into the top of the
sixth. Then the Lancers would explode with four runs tieing the game at five.
Then in their half of the inning MCLA took the lead back at 6-5, but again
Worcester would battle back in the top of the seventh taking a one-run lead.
Then with bases loaded Hendricks smacked a two RBI double that scored the tieing
and game winning runs.
