OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR/OFFENSIVE LINE
David Kaizer ‘04,
is beginning his
fourth year on the Worcester State coaching staff and first as
offensive coordinator having returned to
his alma mater three years ago after spending a year coaching at Assumption
College. Coach Kaizer was a three-year starter for the Lancers
and was a member of the 2001 ECAC championship team. Coach Kaizer will be in charge of coaching the
Lancer offensive line this season.
WIDE RECEIVERS
Todd Roberts
is
a 1995 graduate of Marist College where played on the MAAC
championship team in 1994. Coach Roberts began his coaching
career at the high school level coaching at Medway sand King
Phillip High Schools. In 2000, he made the jump to college
coaching the special teams and wide receivers at Curry College.
After moving to Stonehill College for the 2001 season, Coach
Roberts spent two years as an assistant defensive backs coach at
UMass-Amherst. Coach Roberts made a move to Assumption College
in 2004 and for the past two seasons has been the special team’s
coordinator at Becker College where he coached both defensive
backs and wide receivers. Last season’s Becker College team led
the nation in punt returns under Coach Roberts.
DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR
Mark Sullivan,
returns to the Lancer sideline having coached for Worcester
State and Head Coach Brien Cullen from 2000-2001.
Coach Sullivan is coming off a 6 year stint as the head coach at
fellow New England football Conference school Framingham State.
Prior to his Worcester State and Framingham State stints, Coach
Sullivan began his collegiate coaching career as the offensive
coordinator for UMass-Lowell.
Coach Sullivan began his coaching career in 1983 serving as
defensive coordinator for Marlboro High School and St.
Bernard’s. Following that he was a head coach for 10 years
most notably at Keefe Tech in Framingham. In 1991 he was named
coach of the year at Keefe Tech and in 1992 was chosen to coach
in the Shriner’s All-Star game. In 1994, while at Ayer High
School, Coach Sullivan was on the sidelines for the Central Mass
All-Star game.
Coach Cullen remarked about the hiring, “We are very fortunate
to have this much experience back on our sideline. Coach
Sullivan has tremendous experience and will be a great asset on
the defensive side of the ball.”
Coach Sullivan is a 1985 graduate of UMass-Amherst and is
currently a history teacher at Wachusett Regional High School.
DEFENSIVE LINE
Lou Varrichione,
has been coaching
football for over 48 years. This is Coach Varrichione’s second
tour with the Lancers having served under Coach Cullen from 1994
through 1999. Among Coach Varrichione’s stops have included
stints at Dean College, Framingham State College, Harvard
University, UMass-Amherst and high school jobs with Xaverian and
Ashland High School where he was head coach. Coach Varrichione
is a graduate of UMass-Amherst and will coach the defensive line
this season.
DEFENSIVE ENDS
Scott Jackson
is
a product of Westfield State College. His coaching resume
includes four years on the sidelines of Springfield Cathedral
where he coached the offensive and defensive lines and served as
defensive coordinator in 2001. His most recent coaching duties
have been at Bentley College where he coached the defensive
backs for the 2002 and 2003 seasons. Coach Jackson will
coach the Defensive Ends this season.
DEFENSIVE SECONDARY
Anthony Black,
returns to coach the Lancer secondary for
the third year. Coach Black was a standout in the Lancer
defensive backfield at safety for the Lancers two seasons ago.
Coach Black,
who saw plenty of time on the field, and was a starter his junior and senior seasons will
be in charge of the secondary this season.
