Four Lancers Earn All-Bogan Division Honors

Worcester, MA
– The Worcester State College football team had four members of the 2007 football team named to the New England Football Conference’s Bogan Division All-Star team as selected by the coaches.  Two were selected to the first team, while two more were added to the second team.  Seniors Jonathan Remkus (Douglas, MA) and Mike Coppola (Dracut, MA) were named to the first team.  Senior Tim Bartucca (North Attleboro,  MA) and junior Matt Leeds (Bellingham, MA) were second team selections.

Remkus is making his second appearance on the All Bogan 1st team having been selected a year ago.  A three year starter, Remkus was the mainstay of the offensive line the past two seasons.  Remkus is also an excellent student who has been on the Worcester State Dean’s List as well as the Worcester State student-athlete and MASCAC academic honor rolls.  Remkus was the offensive captain of the 2007 Lancer squad.

Coppola is making his first appearance on the all conference team at defensive end.  Coppola was a defensive co-captain this season and was fourth on the team in tackles with 59 including 4.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles.  Coppola was named the NEFC and ECAC New England Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Framingham State earlier this season.

Bartucca was named to the All-Bogan 2nd team for his outstanding play at linebacker.  Bartucca led the Lancers in tackles this season with 86 and added 2 interceptions and a pair of fumble recoveries.  Bartucca also finished his career as one of the top punters in Worcester State history including resetting the school mark for longest punt when he booted a 77 yarder against Westfield State in his final game.  Bartucca was also named the NEFC Defensive Player of the Week in the final week of the season.

Leeds is also making his first appearance on the all-conference team.  Leeds had a tremendous season from his safety position creating mismatches on blitzes.  Leeds led the Lancers in tackles for loss with 12.5 as well as sacks with 4.5.
