September 30, 2006 Framingham, MA- The Framingham State College Rams hosted Worcester State at home today in New England Football Conference action and were defeated 26-14 on Framingham’s Maple Street Field. With the win the Lancers move to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the NEFC Bogan Division, while the Rams remain winless at 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference. On their second possession of the day, Framingham State took the early lead and their only lead of the day on a 1-yard touchdown run by senior Bryce Guilbeault (Acushnet, MA) that capped a 16 play 63 yard drive. Worcester State forced the Rams to fumble and on their ensuing possession responded with a 26 yard field goal by Tom Gabriel (Wareham, MA) to cut the Rams lead to 7-3 with just over thirteen minutes remaining in the half. Worcester State forced another fumble by the Rams and once again capitalized on the turnover to take the lead. Lancer quarterback Pat Good (Hull, MA) found wide receiver Brian Doherty (Lunenburg, MA) in the end zone for a four yard touch down pass to put the Lancers up 10-7 with 4:35 remaining in the opening half. The Lancers offense dominated the game as they amassed 354 yards of total offense, 214 yards thru the air, while the Rams had only 240 yards including 125 passing. Worcester State added two touchdowns and a field goal in the third quarter to extend their lead to 26-7. Good found wide out Matt DeRosa (Burlington, MA) for a 28-yard touchdown pass and Jonathan Godfrey (Tyngsboro, MA) scampered in for a one yard touchdown run. Godfrey finished the day with 97 yards on 21 carries. Good finished the day 17 of 32 for 198 yards and two touchdowns. The Rams mounted a comeback late in the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to 12 points on a 41 yard touchdown pass from Guilbeault to senior wide out Bill Meuse (Tewksbury, MA). Guilbeault finished the day with 96 yards passing and 68 yards rushing. The Rams defense was led by senior Mark Peterson (Berkley, MA), who had a game high 11 tackles, two pass break ups and blocked a Lancer field goal attempt. The Lancers defense forced the Rams to commit five turnovers on the day and was led by Patrick Savage and Perry Stauffer who had seven tackles a piece. The Rams return to action next Saturday as they host Bridgewater State at 2:00, while the Lancers host Maine Maritime at noon |
