Oksanish to Gaucher TD Pass Cambridge, MA – The Worcester State College Lancers used a 20-point outburst in the second quarter to take a commanding victory over the Engineers of MIT, 41-16, in a game which saw senior tailback Greg Wood (Auburn, MA) break the school record for career rushing yards at MIT’s Steinbrenner Stadium in Cambridge, MA. MIT hopped out to an early 7-0 lead as linebacker Mike Harvey (Livonia, NY) returned a Lancer fumble 72 yards for the score. The Lancers answered right back as Wood took a handoff and raced 46 yards down to the MIT 25. Quarterback Cean Oksanish (S. Grafton, MA) found Jeremy Gaucher (Burrillville, RI) in the end zone seven plays later to tie the game at 7-7. After both teams struggled to move the ball, the Engineers re-took the lead when David Ostlund (Watertown, NY) plunged in from 7 yards out. The kick failed and the Engineers led 13-7 at the end of the first quarter. Oksanish found junior receiver Lavon Cuyler (Pittsfield, MA) in the end zone 2:30 into the second quarter on a 26-yard pass and that would be the last time the teams would be tied. The story of the game was Wood. Needing 103 yards to surpass WSC Hall of Famer John Smith (2,608 yards) entering the game, the pre-season All-American got that and more. Wood finished the day with 167 yards on 29 carries to go along with 3 touchdowns. The senior now holds virtually all of Worcester State’s career rushing, scoring and all-purpose yardage records. Freshman Kenyatta Hale (Norton, MA) added the Lancer’s final score with a 41-yard touchdown jaunt in the fourth quarter. The Lancers will return to action next Saturday for Homecoming weekend at Worcester State as they kickoff their NEFC Bogan Division schedule hosting the Owls of Westfield State. MIT will head to Milton to take on Curry College. ##### |
