BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College swept all six singles matches and all three doubles matches as the Bears breezed to a 9-0 victory over Worcester State in non-conference women’s tennis action this afternoon in Bridgewater.
The Bears (3-0) have now opened the season with three straight wins for the first time since the 1989 campaign. With the loss, Worcester falls to 0-5.
Bridgewater’s top four singles and doubles players were all double winners led by freshman Rachel Elman (Dighton, MA) who posted a 6-0, 7-5 straight set win at first singles and teamed with sophomore Paulina Ucher (Webster, MA) for an 8-0 victory at second doubles. Ucher also breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at fourth singles.
Freshman Jessica Francis (West Barnstable, MA) and senior co-captain Angie Bizzozero (Norwell, MA) teamed up for an 8-2 win at first doubles. Francis also earned a 6-4, 6-4 straight set victory at third singles while Bizzozero posted a 6-3, 6-2 straight set win at second singles.
BSC returns to action on Thursday afternoon as the Bears travel to Roger Williams University for a 3:30 match with the Hawks. Worcester State is off until next Monday at 3:30 when the Lancers travel to Johnson & Wales University.
