Cumberbatch and Johns Added To Women’s Soccer Staff

Worcester, MA – The Worcester State College women’s soccer team has added a pair of assistant coaches to the 2007 coaching staff.  Joining Head Coach Matt Kagan will be Kevin Cumberbatch and Brooke Johns for the upcoming season.

Coach Cumberbatch joins the Lancers’ staff after a successful playing career at Southern New Hampshire University.  He was a member of the SNHU team that played in the 2002 National Championship game.  He was selected as a captain of the team his senior season and was named to the all-conference team as a center back.  Coach Cumberbatch has been on the staff at the Nutmeg Soccer School in Manchester, NH for 5 years.

Coach Johns is a 2006 graduate of the University of Hartford.  She was an All-America East and NSCAA All-New England selection at center back.  After college, she played for the Western Massachusetts Lady Pioneers of the W League in 2006 and most recently played for the Claremont Stars of the WPSL in California.

The Lancers will be looking to go even deeper into the NCAA tournament last season after last season’s record breaking season.  Last season, Worcester State advanced to the national tournament for the third straight season by virtue of their 3-1 win over Bridgewater State in the finals of the MASCAC tournament.  In the NCAA tournament at Union College, Worcester State defeated the nationally ranked Ducks of Stevens Institute, 1-0, before falling in the second round to Endicott College in a shootout.
