Cumberbatch Promoted to Head
Women’s Soccer Coach
Worcester, MA – Worcester State College athletic
director Sue Chapman has announced the promotion of
assistant coach Kevin Cumberbatch to the position of
Head Women’s Soccer coach. Cumberbatch, who served
as a Lancer assistant coach this season, replaces
Matt Kagan who has been hired by the University of
Evansville as the 1st assistant of their women’s
soccer team. Assistant coach Brooke Johns will
remain with the staff for the 2008 season.
Coach Cumberbatch joined the team last season after
a successful playing career at Southern New
Hampshire University. He was a member of the SNHU
team that played in the 2002 National Championship
game. He was selected as a captain of the team his
senior season and was named to the all-conference
team as a center back. Coach Cumberbatch has been on
the staff at the Nutmeg Soccer School in Manchester,
NH for 5 years.
Coach Cumberbatch takes over the reigns of one of
the top women’s soccer programs in New England for
the past 4 season. The Lancers have been to each of
the last 4 NCAA tournaments and this past season
enjoyed their most successful year in program
history. The team, which finished with a 16-6
record; tying the school record for wins in a
season, advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 this year
after winning the Massachusetts State College
Athletic Conference postseason tournament. The team
recorded another first as in the final coaches’ poll
of the season the team finished ranked #21 in the
country.
