Women's Soccer Falls To Fitchburg, 1-0

FITCHBURG, Mass.  –  Sophomore striker Lauren Wundt (Southwick, MA/Southwick-Tolland) ignited Fitchburg State College in a MASCAC  showdown against Worcester State College, scoring the game’s lone goal in a 1-0 Falcon triumph over the visiting Lancers Saturday at Elliot Field on Homecoming Weekend.

Fellow FSC sophomore Ashley Dutcher (Littleton, MA/Littleton) sent Wundt in alone in the 14th minute and Wundt delivered the contest’s only goal in the lower left corner to lift the hosts over the visitors for the first time since 1995.

FSC improved to 6-1-0 overall a perfect 2-0-0 in MASCAC play, while the Lancers dropped to 5-4-0 overall and evened their MASCAC record at 1-1-0.

 Fitchburg owned a 3-2 edge in shots in the first half but the Lancers owned a 9-6 advantage in shots for the game.

Worcester State controlled the final 10 minutes of the contest were unable to break through FSC netminder Emily Swan (Franklin, MA/Franklin), who finished with nine saves.

WSC senior midfielder Lesley Bergquist (Ashby, MA/North Middlesex) had a chance on a one-timer with one minute remaining but her shot went just over the right side of the goal.

Worcester freshman keeper Erin Doherty (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) finished with five stops .
