Worcester State College women’s soccer team got
second half goal from senior co-captain Kelsey Irish
(Worcester, MA) to knock off the visiting Lady
Vikings of Salem State Saturday afternoon on the
turf of Coughlin Field. The win is the first
Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference
victory of the season as the Lancers improve to 5-2
(1-0 MASCAC) and ride the wave of a four game win
streak. The Lady Vikings fall to 0-5-1 (0-1 MASCAC).
Lancer forward Amanda Santos (Milford, MA) got Worcester State on the board in the third minute when she found the back of the net off a pass from junior Amanda Beadet (Auburn, MA).
Salem State answered back in the 15th minute when sophomore Amber Warnick (Wilmington, MA) netted an unassisted goal to knot the game at, 1-1.
Worcester State got the game-winner in the 56th minute when a hand ball by Salem State resulted in a free kick for Irish who knocked home the game-winner.
Worcester State keeper Erin Doherty (Uxbridge, MA) stopped 6 shots on the day while her counterpart Abigail DeAngelo (Lowell, MA) made 9 saves.
