Shuts Out UMass-Boston, 5-0

Five different players scored as the Worcester State
College women’s soccer team got their third straight
victory Thursday evening at Worcester State’s
Coughlin Field as they defeated the visiting Beacons
of UMass-Boston by the final score of, 5-0. The
three-game Lancer win streak has all been by shutout
and the 5-0 tally matches the final score of their
last win at Plymouth State University. Worcester
State is now 4-2 on the season, while UMass-Boston
falls to 2-5.
Junior Amanda Santos (Milford, MA) opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when she potted the game-winner off a pass down the right side of the field by junior Amanda Beaudet (Auburn, MA). The goal was Santos’ 4th on the year. Freshman Sarah Connors (Gardner, MA) scored in the 34th minute to make the score, 2-0, when she converted on a pass from junior Tiffany Rotatori (Auburn, MA). The Lancers closed out the first half scoring when senior co-captain Kelsey Irish (Hudson, MA) beat the Beacons keeper off a feed from sophomore Stephanie Meekin (Ware, MA).
In the second half, it continued the Lancers way as Beaudet scored her second goal of the year with an assist credited to Rotatori. Rotatori netted her team-high 5th goal of the year in the 69th minute off a feed from midfielder Lauren Cush (Hudson, MA) for the 5-0 final.
Worcester State keeper Erin Doherty (Uxbridge, MA) had to make just one save before giving way to fellow freshman Rachael Armanti (W. Boylston, MA). Beacons net minder Ashley McRoberts (Merrimack, NH) played well stopping 10 shots on the night but the Lancers were too much out shooting UMass-Boston 29-4.
Worcester State will return to action on Saturday when they host Salem State in their MASCAC opener. UMass-Boston will visit Little East foe Southern Maine on Saturday.
