Women's Soccer Shuts out MCLA, 2-0
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State College women’s soccer team won their second game in a row defeating the visiting Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts by the final score of, 2-0, in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference soccer action Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Lancers to 7-4 (2-1 MASCAC), while MCLA falls to 6-7 (1-2 MASCAC).
Worcester State got on the board in the 20th minute when sophomore Shannon Feeley (West Springfield, MA) took scored her first goal of the season off a tremendous throw in from senior Lesley Bergquist (Ashby, MA).
Freshman Sarah Connors (Gardner, MA) would add an insurance goal in the 35th minute to improve the Lancer advantage to, 2-0, off an assist from junior Katelyn Bonetti (Plymouth, MA). The goal was Connors’ third of the season.
That would be all the scoring on the afternoon despite several second half opportunities for both teams.
On the afternoon, the Lancers out shot the Trailblazers 19-7.
Worcester State keeper Erin Doherty (Uxbridge, MA) registered 5 saves on the day, while Kristean Kissel (Champlain, NY) stopped 8 Worcester State offerings.
Worcester State will return to the pitch on Monday when they visit Framingham State. MCLA will visit Salem State on Monday.
