Women's Soccer Beats Keene State, 3-0
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State College women’s soccer team got back in the win column Wednesday afternoon defeating the visiting Keene State College Owls by the final score of, 3-0. Worcester State improves to 6-4 on the year, while Keene State falls to, 6-5-1.
Worcester State co-captain Lauren Cush (Hudson, MA) scored the lone goal in the first half as she opened the scoring in the 34th minute when she broke down the middle of the field beating a Keene State defender and launched a 25 yard shot over the outstretched arms of the Owls’ net minder to give the Lancers a, 1-0 lead. The goal was Cush’s fourth of the season. Worcester State out shot the visitors 9 to 5 in the first frame.
In the second half, Worcester State increased their lead to, 2-0, in the 53rd minute when junior Katelyn Bonetti (Plymouth, MA) got a scoring touch on a pass from Amanda Beaudet (Auburn, MA). The goal was Bonetti’s second on the year. Bonetti added her second of the game in the 63rd minute when a clear by the Keene State defense ricocheted past the Keene State goalie.
Lancer keeper Erin Doherty (Uxbridge, MA) stopped three shots on the day, while Keene State keeper Samantha Hirsh (Holliston, MA) made five saves for Keene State.
Worcester State will return to conference action on Saturday when they host MCLA on Coughlin Field. Keene State returns to the pitch on Saturday when they host Rhode Island College.
