Worcester State Shuts Out Nichols, 3-0
Worcester, MA- The Worcester State College women’s soccer team clinched the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference regular season title and the top seed in the upcoming MASCAC postseason tournament by virtue of their, 2-0, victory over the Westfield State College Owls on senior night at a rain soaked Coughlin Field Friday night. The Lancers have won the regular season conference title two of the past three seasons. Worcester State is now 11-5 (5-1 MASCAC) on the season while Westfield State falls to 4-11-1 (0-4-1 MASCAC).
Amanda Beaudet (Auburn, MA) opened the scoring in the 14th minute for the Lancers as she fired a shot that the Owl keeper got a piece of but it trickled past her into the open net. The goal was Beaudet’s third of the season and was assisted by junior Tiffany Rotatori (Auburn, MA).
Senior co-captain Kelsey Irish (Hudson, MA) increased the Lancer lead to, 2-0, in the 66th minute when she drilled a shot through a screen and into the back of the net for her 6th of the year on a direct kick just outside the box.
Worcester State goalkeeper Erin Doherty (Uxbridge, MA) made 1 save on the night as she earned her 8th shutout of the season. Westfield State goaltender Jesse Tomich (Alford, MA) made 6 saves in taking the loss.
Worcester State will close out the regular season portion of their schedule next Tuesday when they travel to UMass Dartmouth. Westfield State will host the Lady Vikings of Salem State in Westfield a week from Saturday.
