Worcester State Knocks Off Clark, 4-0

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State College Lancer women’s soccer team defeated the visiting Cougars of Clark University Wednesday evening by the final score of, 4-0, on the turf of Worcester State’s Coughlin Field.  The win was the first for the Lancers over their cross-town rivals since the 2002 season.  Worcester State improves to 2-0 on the young season, while the Cougars fall to 0-2.

The Lancers opened the scoring in the 8th minute when sophomore Tiffany Rotatori (Auburn, MA) drove home the game-winner from the left side unassisted.   Rotatori’s high school teammate Amanda Beaudet (Auburn, MA) added the Lancers’ second goal of the game in the 28th minute knocking home a rebound off a blast from junior Lauren Cush (Hudson, MA).  Rotatori closed out the first half scoring with her second tally of the night; a rocket from 25 yards out off a feed from Beaudet to beat the Clark keeper.

The two teams played 38 scoreless minutes in the second half before Cush scored the final goal off a fine pass from Beaudet to give Worcester State the, 4-0, victory.

Senior Kim Massa (Westford, MA) needed to make just a single save in earning her second straight shutout.  Clark net minders Thea Link (Irvington, NY) and Nolizwe Nondabula (Hayward, CA) stopped five shots for the Cougars.

Worcester State will return to action on Saturday when the host MIT.  Clark will return to the pitch on Saturday when they head to Oneonta State to play in the prestigious Mayor’s Cup Tournament against Hartwick.
