BOSTON, MA – Sophomore forward Amanda Santos netted a pair of goals to lead the Worcester State College women’s soccer team over host University of Massachusetts Boston this afternoon, 4-0, at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston.  The Beacons fall to 2-4-0, while the Lancers fall to 7-1-0.

Santos put Worcester State on the board when she took a cross from Katelyn Bonetti and flipped a shot over the UMB keeper, who had fallen, and into the right corner of the net at 11:41 of the first half for a 1-0 edge.

The match remained at 1-0 for most of the afternoon, but after the Beacons’ top player was injured and taken away in an ambulance with 17:33 to go in the match, the Lancers took advantage and scored three times in the final 14:14 of play.

Santos second goal capped the scoring for Worcester State with just 2:16 left in regulation when she took a cross from Danielle Deyorio and lifted a shot from 30 yards out that went through the UMB keeper’s fingertips for a 4-0 lead.

Bonetti gave the Lancers a 2-0 margin after taking a cross from Michelle Astuccio and scored from three yards out and into the right corner at 75:46 of the second stanza.  Deyorio also netted a goal from 20 yards out when her shot from the right corner sailed just over the outstretched hands of the Beacons keeper for a 3-0 Worcester State lead.

Freshman keeper Jessica Penta (Revere, MA) stopped a season-high 20 shots for UMass Boston as the Lancers owned a 36-2 shot advantage.  Kim Massa made two saves to earn the shutout for Worcester State.

The Beacons will be in action again on Saturday, September 23 when they travel to Providence, RI to take on Little East Conference foe Rhode Island College at noon, while the Lancers travel to Salem, MA on September 23 to take on Salem State College at 3:00 p.m.
