Worcester State Outlasts Plymouth, 1-0

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State College women’s soccer team improved to 6-1 on the season capitalizing on an early error by the Plymouth State University defense and gaining a, 1-0, victory over the visitors on a rainy night at Worcester State’s Coughlin Field.  The win ups the Lancers record to 6-1 on the season, while Plymouth State falls to 3-2.

The only score of the game came in the 16th minute when sophomore forward Amanda Santos (Milford, MA) picked off an errant pass by the Panthers which left her with a clear path to the goal and she easily knocked it home for her second goal of the season.

Plymouth State did not back down as they carried play much of the evening testing Worcester State keeper Kim Massa (Westford, MA) on numerous occasions during the rest of the first half.

Massa stopped 5 shots on the night to record her 6th shutout of the season.  Plymouth State goaltender Morgan McQuaide (Westerly, RI) stopped 4 Lancer offerings in the game.

Worcester State will return to action on Thursday when they pay a visit to UMass-Boston.  Plymouth State will begin Little East Conference play on Saturday when they host the Huskies of Eastern Connecticut State University.
